This picture- as well as the other portraits- is obviously taken during the commemoration to the victims of holocaust in the concentration camp of Mauthausen/ Gusen which is in Austria. Several times I participated in the annual memorations, which always take place in the beginning of May. Not only your shots are excellent, but they show the atmosphere, the traces of the cruel past in this faces of the survivals. I gratulate you for the pictures and particulary for loading them! For me these picture are like documents- documents for a period of incredible brutality and inhumanity- and more: they are signs or symbols against the quick and fast proces of forget of our memory...

Thank you for kind words. Indeed, these photos were taken during the commemoration to the victims of holocaust in the concentration camp of Mauthausen / Gusen - more specifically on the 61th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.

I have to admit, that it was a disturbing event for me as a photographer - sadness on former inmates faces is an unforgettable picture, that's why I put my photos wherever possible for other people not to forget about the past.

Maybe I will just add that I have hitchhiked with my wife from Poland and back to attend this event, which made it even more special for me.
